New Zealand has several traditional foods that are significant to its culture, society and history. This print celebrates Colonial Goose, a roast lamb meal invented by early European settlers. While investigating the use of nostalgia in design, the aim was to visually represent the meal in a modern context.
The traditional handprinted method gives a sense of nostalgia, while the bold composition creates a modern flavour. Thick brown stock and heavily layered ink communicate the nature of a hearty meal, and the creams, browns and reds are reminiscent of meat and gravy on plates.
